Have you seen someone using technology inappropriately? Or do you have any pet peeves regarding technology and the way people use it? Not only is it against the law, but I hate seeing people texting while they drive. It's so extremely dangerous and people should never text and drive considering the danger they are putting not only themselves in but also the other people on the road.
This video from SNL is made to be funny and to make fun of some of the crazy distracting things people do while driving. However, I do think it's true that some people are not focused enough on the road while behind the wheel.
What irks you about the way some people use some technologies?

After watching that video, and looking back on commute every day either to work or school, i can say that texting while driving is something that really bothers me. As we know, the state seems to have more of a focus on catching those who are talking on their cell phones rather than those who are texting. If you think about it though, at least those who are talking on their cell phones are still watching the road. I have seen several counts where drivers are texting and their eyes are completely off the road. A perfect example would be when my sister got rear ended leaving work. A few months ago when her shift was over, she walked to the parking garage with her co-worker and they each went to their own car. After leaving the parking garage, my sister was sitting at a red light in her brand new car that she picked up 3 days earlier, when her co-worker rear ended her because she was texting her boyfriend.
ReplyDeletePersonally i do not have many pet peeves about people using technology. The only time it really bothers me is when someone is being rude with their device in a public area, or if they are using it at an inappropriate time and putting other peoples lives in danger.
Eric, this is awful. At least, the good thing is, your sister was not seriously hurt. Unfortunately, texting while driving has taken the lives of many people, most of whom, are teenagers. For some reason, receiving a text on a phone stimulates this feeling in people that they must check what it says right away. It's so much better to either wait until you reach your destination to check it or pull over so you won't be distracted while driving. If everyone did this, driving on the roads would be a lot safer for everyone.
DeleteI totally agree with both Eric and Diana. Texting while driving can be extremely dangerous, and fortunately, it seems that society is becoming more aware of this issue. When I received my new phone from AT&T in the mail, there was a sticker on the front of the phone that promoted being safe and not texting while driving. I thought it was great.
ReplyDeleteSeeing someone either talking on the phone or texting really irks me. It almost causes a type of road rage, because I want to honk at the person and tell him or her to stop endangering my life and the lives of others on the road! If these people are inconsiderate enough to put their own lives in peril, well, that's their own decision...but sadly, driving is not something that only one person does. Cellphones seem to claim the lives of some people that can't seem to do anything without them, whether it be taking a shower, doing other unmentionables in the bathroom and tweeting every single move they make. I would have to say that is my pet peeve. I don't need to know that someone has pulled into a grocery store or is sitting at a red light...
